{Maddy's flag she drew to decorate the house}
We kicked off the festivites on Friday night...

...we went to the carnival and had so much fun watching Maddy giggle with delight on all of the rides. We then met Julean, Pete, and the kids to watch the parade, and of course, CATCH all of the CANDY!

Afterward we went to Stewarts (Pete's parents) to do a few little fireworks. They're always so kind to invite us over! And it was pretty amusing watching Pete and his brothers trying to do dry ice bombs while getting chewed out by their mother. Boys, boys. :)

On Saturday we went and did a simple hike with Aunt Alena and Uncle Jared at Donut Falls. Maddy walked almost the entire time and loved picking flowers and watching all of the butterflies around her. She led the way for part of the time and sang and marched as she went. She also discovered what it's like to go potty in the real wilderness...fun stuff.

Right before our hike...Maddy needed some reassurance from Daddy

Almost at the top! Evan LOVED looking at everything around him. He would point and start chattering when he was interested about something.

Later that day Julean and Pete had us over for a good American BBQ!
Yummy stuff!

A rare moment holding my sweet boy...he's usually always on the move!

Maddy decided it wasn't a real BBQ until she took a full-body dip into the pool!

Good thing we brought pajamas

As it got dark, we walked a few blocks to watch the city fireworks. We happened to arrive right in front of them right as they started...
how's that for planning?

It was then I had the chance to reflect on the great country in which we live, and the many freedoms I enjoy. How blessed we are to go out and do fun things when we please, enjoy the beautiful land where we live, and be surrounded by wonderful family.
Happy Independence Day!

Glad you are enjoying the mountains...I LOVE Donut Falls and spent many a year there growing up. That's my stomping grounds. =)
