Every Memorial Day, after a fun dip in the pool and a yummy BBQ, we like to go visit some of our family members' graves and reflect on the great legacy our ancestors have left us. This year it was Daddy's family's turn.
So we headed up to the Salt Lake Cemetery. Henry loves his new fedora hat and was actually requesting to wear it on the car ride there. He was so cute!
We visited Daddy's Grandpa and Grandma Starr's grave first: Courtland Price and Phoebe Marie. We talked about how cousin Courtland was named after great-Grandpa Starr and how he died rather young, before even Grandma Starr had met him. Then you kids wanted to know all about heart-attacks and how to prevent them etc. Luckily, even with a gene history like yours, we have better medicine and a better knowledge to stay healthy.
Henry really enjoyed all of the windmills surrounding the graves and entertained himself for several minutes.
We visited Grandpa and Grandma Bruderer's graves and talked about how they are Grandma Starr's parents. We mentioned, as always how our Madelyn Mae was named after Grandma Bruderer, as well as cousin Violet. We talked about what we remembered about Grandpa Bruderer and how we missed him and all of his wonderful hats.
On the way back to the car, Luke was sad and we asked him why. He told us it was because he wanted to visit his great-grandparents at their house and talk to them! It was so endearing and made us wonder how thin the veil still is for a small 3-year-old. We talked about how they are in heaven with Heavenly Father and Jesus but that they are like our angels cheering us on to keep doing what's right because they love us and as their family are so invested in our eternal happiness.
After Daddy came back to the car from reflecting at his grandparents' graves he said the same thing and we all felt the Spirit telling us that these things were true. I am so thankful for family and for the great legacy of faith and love our family has left us!
