We left Salt Lake after a few hiccups - sprinklers needing fixed, me having severe side pain, and just packing and organizing a family of seven. By 10:30 in the morning we were finally on the road.
Normally, I hate driving through Wyoming, probably because it is usually the dead of winter when we pass through, but today the state was showing off. Everything from the lush green grass to red rock to sweeping cliffs to beautiful mountains to the brightest, most beautiful blue sky was breathtaking. The clouds looked like they were straight out of a Pixar movie and we spent most of the morning naming what each cloud looked like.
I had packed some sandwiches before we left so at lunchtime we found a nearby park and let the kids run around. It’s so fun to discover a new place and see how people live each day. This park was so fun and the weather was absolutely perfect, we didn’t want to leave. But we did and kept going until we made a little detour by a gorgeous lake to find some disgusting outhouse restrooms. But it did the job, ha!
We stopped for dinner at Casper Wyoming and we were all ready to get to our destination soon: Rapid City, South Dakota. But we still had a few more hours to go. Henry has been so intrigued and excited about each hotel we’re staying at on this trip. He’s been asking lots of questions about every detail of the hotels. Tonight at dinner he asked me, “Are there rules at the hotel like no jokes?” To which Jonathan and I replied, “Only when you’re sleeping.” Oh goodness, how adorable and precious is this kid?! All of these kids! I sometimes just can’t handle it. They were all so good on this leg of the trip, my little road warriors. Outside of Casper, Evan found a little water tower that read Evansville. So fun!
The last few miles of our trip reminded us all so much of a Kansas landscape, even down to the beautiful sunset that Evan wanted to make sure I took a picture of. Even the last little town we went through felt like we were transported to Emporia’s Main Street.
We made it to our hotel around 11 that night and after some giggles and fighting and quick unpacking, we finally went to sleep.
